Our scripture reading this morning from Luke 1 teaches us that God sent the angel Gabriel to this favored young woman who was legally pledged to be married to Joseph. Mary’s world was rocked as she listened, saw and reflected on the words of the angel from God. She would conceive a child with the help of the Holy Spirit . . . she would bear a son, name him Jesus and he would be both God and man. Gabriel explains that all this will happen by the power of God.
