Our daily living is often motivated by giving and receiving based on what is due. Whether it’s receiving a paycheck, buying groceries, inviting people over for a meal, giving advice… our motivation is influenced by what we may get in return or if it’s our turn to respond. And we like it this way. When our actions are part of the equation, we feel we have some influence or means of control. Also by other’s actions, we have a gauge by which we measure our response back to them or how far we feel we need to extend ourselves on their behalf.
