Guess how many times the ‘quarrelsome wife’ is mentioned in the Proverbs. Guess how many times spanking children is mentioned. Where does a good wife come from? How do you get to the roots of foolishness in a child? Marriage, family and parenting are primary components to teaching and experiencing the way of wisdom. The fact that marriage and parenting are such touchy issues in our culture simply evidences how far we have strayed from the ways of God.
The book of Proverbs is a training manual in the way of wisdom for parents to use with their children. Learning to fear the Lord and avoid foolishness is portrayed in the setting of parents instructing their children within the context of a godly marriage. The family unit, father, mother and children, is crucial to the designs of God in promoting and practicing a worshipful submission to him.
